	Andre von Morisse was born in Norway and has lived in the United States since the mid-1980s. His primary subject matter has always been the natural world, especially lakes, rivers and ponds and the fish and plant life that inhabit them. In the majority of works in this exhibition, however, the artist is less interested in objective reality and more in constructing surreal and humorous narratives. These works explore the widespread societal perception of nature as an unlimited, abundant, ever-replenishing resource, which therefore may be used for any means, however absurd. Although von Morisse is dealing with subjective issues, the paintings address multiple aspects of our attitudes toward the natural world: economic (nature as food and fuel), psychological (our fear of being part of the food chain), and moral (our over-consumption of limited resources).
